Anders Clementsson, progenitor of the Cecil County Clements family, was described by Dr. Amandus Johnson as a soldier in New Sweden who had arrived on the Eagle in 1654. This is probably incorrect. It seems more likely to this writer that he was the son of Clement Joransson, a Finn from Sunne parish, Varmland, Sweden , who was convicted for forest­ burning in 1640 and sent to New Sweden for punishment in 1641. …
